The life of Christ was influenced by rulers like Augustus Caesar, Herod the Great, and Pontius Pilate. Below, are links to sites which present some of these rulers.

Herod the Great
Herod the Great ruled over Palestine when Jesus was born. Herod murdered several members of his own family, and was generally hated by his subjects. Recent studies on the death of Herod have concluded that he died of kidney failure and gangrene.

Herod Antipas
Herod Antipas was the son of Herod the Great. He took his half-brother's wife, and imprisoned John the Baptist for condemning this action. At the request of his step-daughter, Herod Antipas ordered the beheading of John (Matthew 14:1-12).
